October 31st, a day which we know as Halloween is a day that is celebrated by many. Especially if you have a kid, you go on a hunt to look for the cutest costume for your child, dress them up, and find a party or event to take them to. Yea, I was that mom. But this year is the first year my daughter will not be dressing up or partaking in the festivities. As I go deeper in my relationship with God and learn more about His will for my life as His creation, I realize the life changes that are required to be made.

One thing that we moms can agree on is that children learn by what they see more than what they are told. Knowing this we as their examples need to remember that we need to resemble the characteristics and ways we want them to embody. As a result, we need to remember that following Christ and having a true relationship with him means that we are “set apart”.

And those whom God set apart, he called; and those he called, he put right with himself, and he shared his glory with them. Romans 8:30 (GNTA)

Being set apart means looking different than everyone else especially those who do not have a relationship with God. When you are set apart God’s light shines through you wherever you go. When people see you they should be able to see the distinction in you.

Halloween is a day that although may seem innocent and fun is actually the opposite. This is a day in which a lot of demonic activities take place that open doors that leaves children vulnerable to the devil and his schemes. God’s will for all of his children is for us to not act like or assimilate to the ways of the world which are not His ways. But to reflect him and allow his glory to shine through us. In doing so our children will follow suit. Today I encourage you to reflect on what it means to have a relationship with God, think about how far you have come and what he has brought you out of. If you don’t have a relationship with him yet, I encourage you to give him a try and see how good of a father he can be. Whether or not you decide to celebrate Halloween with your children, I encourage you to watch this video and hear a former satanist turned minister for God speak on the dangers of this day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q369iQJ49cY&t=16s

If you need assistance having this discussion with your child, here is a video I watched with my daughter to help guide the conversation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NgQ6cQc9do
